Yorkshire beaches Are Amongst The Best In The World

Yes it’s official Yorkshire beaches have been confirmed as some of the best in the world.

Yorkshire has been awarded five Blue Flag awards by anti-litter charity Keep Britain Tidy because of the beaches high standard of cleanliness, safety , environmental management and water quality.

Who needs Spain when you’ve got some of the best beaches in the world on your doorstep?, now people traveling to a Yorkshire hotel can enjoy clean and scenic beaches.

Scarborough’s North Bay, Filey and Whitby all received Blue Flags as well as Hornsea and Withernsea who gained back their status after missing out last year.

Bridlington were the only major beach to miss out on the coveted awards, not reaching the mark by only a fraction.

In total fifteen beaches received the Quality Coast Awards (QCA’s) for high standards of beach management, including Bridlington North and South, Robin Hoods Bay, Sandsend and Runswick Bay , giving Yorkshire a higher concentration of QCA’s than any other region in the UK.

North Yorkshire’s beaches haven’t had it all their way though with the news that Yorkshire Water has been fined after Runswick Bay had sewage pollution released into it’s beck accidentally.

Yorkshire Water was fined £75,000 after a pump at one of their stations released sewage into the beck at Runswick Bay.

Since the mishap Yorkshire Water has accepted full responsibility and made vast improvements and increased measures to make sure the incident is never repeated.

North Yorkshire beaches will also not be pleased to hear about news that beaches such as Staithes, Bridlington South and Robin Hoods Bay will be unfit to swim in judging by new quality standards coming into effect in 2015.
